Jackson's Surgery

As you can see we have had a really crazy month and a half. Jackson was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus on May 21st. Basically it means that his head does not drain fluid that it makes like our heads do on their own. So his fluid has been building up most of his little life. He has been super fussy because he has had such horrible headaches from the pressure. (And I just thought Ihad a really hard baby but he has been in immense pain!)
So we were sent to primary children's where we spent the night. Our two options for a surgery were a shunt- a tube that would drain the fluid manually- or a ventriculostomy which is making an extra hole in Jackson's brain to help it drain the fluid by itself. In Jackson's case there was only a 40% chance of the hole surgery working, but that is better than no chance. We decided to try the ventriculostomy to see if we could not put a foreign object into Jackson's head.
It was so hard when they rolled Jackson away from us for the surgery! We all just started crying instantly. I just could not stop thinking that they were taking my five-month-old son to get brain surgery!!

When he came back he was really out of it and really hungry because he had to have an empty stomach for the surgery, and the MRI before that. So in all I think he "fasted" for like 14-16 hours.

By the next morning Jackson woke up cooing in his crib. It was seriously like night and day! We could all tell that Jackson was feeling so much better! We were also so happy because this was a Jackson we had not seen in a very long time!! Before the surgery it was always bloody murder screaming, and lots of distracting and nursing.

I also want to say thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone that came to visit us and supported us. This was honestly the hardest trial I have had in my life and I could not have gotten through it without such loving family and friends. So thank you so much for your love and prayers!

Jackson will have a cool scar though!
